OSLO, NORWAY – November 7, 2018 – Biometric technology company Zwipe is proud to announce that it has achieved a 70% reduction in power consumption as compared to its already market leading power harvesting, dual interface biometric payment card offering while simultaneously reducing cost.
Speaking on this latest development, André Løvestam, CEO at Zwipe said “minimized power consumption, optimized processing capabilities and power harvesting are essential performance requirements for successful implementation of battery-less, contactless (dual interface) biometric payment cards. With our patented technology platform, Zwipe is already the undisputed leader in power harvesting and power management. This latest technological achievement can prove to be a market disruptor and is a key milestone in Generation NxT, Zwipe’s internal supply chain readiness and cost reduction project, further strengthening our lead and first mover advantage.”
Zwipe has collaborated with Cypress Semiconductor Corp., an embedded solutions leader, to support the launch of Zwipe’s next generation inlay solution by developing an MCU based on Cypress’ PSoC® 6 MCU family that is specifically designed for Zwipe’s use in ultra-low power biometric applications in ultra-thin solutions such as biometric payment cards and biometric enabled wearable and IoT devices where minimized power consumption, optimized processing capabilities and power harvesting are essential performance requirements.
Commenting on this collaboration, John Weil, Vice President in the Microcontrollers and Connectivity Division at Cypress, said “this is the culmination of a year of joint development with Zwipe, where we have combined the best of two worlds, leveraging our expertise in embedded computing, security and application integration and the ultra-low-power and performance of our PSoC 6 architecture, with Zwipe’s market leading biometric and power harvesting technology. For Cypress, this collaboration is yet another example of our technology embedded in tomorrow.”
The next generation inlay is currently being integrated onto the latest generation battery-less dual interface biometric payment cards that will be submitted for certification during H1 2019 by Zwipe’s strategic card manufacturing partners.
