Smart ration cards have been distributed to 3.93 lakh families so far in the district.
A statement of District Collector M. Asia Mariam issued here stated that the district accounted for a total of 4.87 lakh ration cards. The district received 4.36 lakh smart cards and the distribution of the same commenced on April 1. So far, 3.93 lakh smart cards had been handed over to families and the work of distribution of remaining cards was progressing at a fast space.
The Public Distribution and Consumer Protection Department was at present engaged with the work of printing the remaining 50,650 smart cards. They too would be distributed to the card holders as soon as they were received.
The families, which had already possessed the smart cards, should collect the essential commodities from the fair price shops only through them from September 1. Those, who had not received the smart cards so far, can collect the ration through the existing ration cards, the Collector said.
People without ration cards should hereafter apply for the new cards only through online. They can upload their applications using the website:www.tnpds.gov.in
People can upload their applications by also visiting the nearby e-service centres. They can collect the application number and the acknowledgement receipt for future reference instantly from the e-service centres. They can gather the details on the processing of their applications for the new ration cards online itself.
Rural people can register their applications for the new cards at the e-centres functioning in their villages itself, the release added.
