Dominica – $1.6m For National I.d Cards For Next General Elections

The Government of Dominica continued its series of town hall meetings on Thursday at the Baracoon Building in Roseau.

In his address, Dominica’s Hon Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Roosevelt Skerrit spoke about several developments ongoing in the country.

The Hon Prime Minister announced that funds have been made available to the Electoral Unit to provide all citizens with national I.D cards.

“The Cabinet has approved an amount approximate to $1.6M to the electoral office for the design and development of a biometric ID management system to provide for national ID cards,” PM Skerrit informed.

He said the Electoral office has already placed the order for the system and Government has made the funds available as a step towards ensuring that all citizens possess an ID ahead of the next general elections.

Last general election was held in December 2014.
