TEMPO.COJakarta – House of Representatives Speaker Setya Novanto has been officially named as a suspect in the electronic ID card (e-KTP) graft case.

Setya’s suspect naming was announced by Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Chairman Agus Rahardjo during a press conference at KPK headquarters on Monday, July 17.

“KPK officially names SN as a suspect for abusing his authority and causing Rp2.3 trillion in state losses,” Agus said.

KPK named Setya as a suspect after taking a closer look at the facts revealed during the e-KTP graft court trials and decided that the facts are sufficient to be used as initial evidence.

Setya, along with Andi Narogong, allegedly served a role related to the megaproject planning and procurement. The KPK earlier named Irman and Sugiharto as suspects in the case and charged both of them with seven and five years of imprisonment, respectively.

Other than being the House Speaker, Setya also serves as the Chairman of Golkar Party.
