India – Ats Arrests Lucknow’s Asst Passport Officer Sudhakar Rastogi

Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) of UP Police claimed to have arrested Assistant Passport Officer in Lucknow Passport Sewa Kendra, Sudhakar Rastogi in Lucknow for indulging in alleged irregularities in issuing passports. 

An FIR was registered against him at ATS Gomti Nagar police station under section 419,420,467,468 and 471 of IPC along with 12,Passport Act. ATS sources said that the officer was involved in changing categories of passport by accepting gratification.

Earlier on March 27, the ATS had raided five places in Lucknow and arrested six people involved in the racket. The accused used to take money for making passports against fake documents and also used to get the Emigration Check Not Required (ECNR) stamp on the passport against fake documents.

The six accused identified as Mohammad Maroof, Mohammad Javed, Mohammad Faisal, Mohammad Shoaib Ansari, Arman Khan and Kulvinder Singh worked as touts for the Assistant Passport Officer. The ATS recovered 73 passports and other illegal documents from them.

Sources in the ATS said that Assistant Passport Officer Sudhakar Rastogi was arrested by a team for colluding with touts in preparing fake passports and change the category of passport holders travelling to Gulf countries. 

The officer made sure that job aspirants intending to fly to Gulf did not undergo Emigration Check certificates, sources added.  Rastogi was recently elected as Treasurer of Lucknow Golf Club. Further investigations are on.
